I’m Betsy Yates, a Portland-based jeweler specializing in custom engagement rings, memorial pieces, and small-batch collections, often with kinetic or interactive elements that invite a sense of play.

When I first started making jewelry in 2011, I didn’t have a business plan—I just knew I needed a creative outlet for my own happiness. What began as a passionate side project slowly grew into something much bigger, and today I’m grateful to call this work my career.

I fell in love with metalsmithing while earning my BFA from the University of Oregon in 2010, and I’ve been working with metal ever since. My work centers around gold, silver, and carefully selected gemstones.

In 2021, I began teaching one-on-one wax carving intensives for jewelers looking to expand their skills. What started as a handful of private lessons quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of my practice. Guiding students and clients through the lost wax casting process—helping them bring something from imagination into reality—has ultimately led me to pursue a long-held dream: opening my own jewelry school.
